United Colors is excited to present In A Blink, a solo exhibition by Jordan Sears. She is an artists based in Kansas City, Missouri. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, she relocated to Kansas City in 2019 to complete her BFA at KCAI. Currently she is the 2024-2025 Jesse Howard Fellow at H&R Block Artspace.

Sears draws from found imagery in films, photographs and various media to create paintings. A key tenant of her practice is cropping, aspect ratio and color grading. Her focus on composition emphasizes evoking tensions and a sense of anticipation.

In A Blink by Sears showcases society’s intricate relationship with visual culture by utilizing found imagery. In these pictures there is a reinterpreting of our visual landscape. With a focus on drawing parallels in iconography, advertisements, and celebrity culture. She considers that her paintings serves as a self-conscious representation that are both centered and often provocative.

By manipulating images through cropping and color grading, She creates a suspended or isolated reality; one that is separate from the original narrative. Quite often characterized by absence. The artists is interested in how this fragmented narrative generates a new tension that is further emphasized by the painting’s formal qualities of light, composition, and texture.
